The world is going through a process of transformation that began 10,000 years ago with the appearance of the first human settlements, but that was exacerbated by the industrial revolution during which our way of life changed significantly due to many inventions. This era of changes is called by many experts "the anthropocene" the era of humanity in which we are the greatest transforming force of this planet. However, this era has brought undesired effects to the environment.
Much of my current research focuses on (1) plant responses to global environmental change, with special interest in atmospheric nitrogen deposition and climate change, (2) biomonitoring nitrogen and other atmospheric pollutants (3) consequences of climate change on epiphytic orchids from montane cloud forest (4) the use of urban vegetation for removal atmospheric pollutants.
